Notes From the Gulf of Mexico

She Blew Right By...

Sometimes it's good to be lied to...

As my last post promised, we were going to see a major rain event yesterday and today. Tropical storm Bonnie, as you can see by the historical track came across Florida with the center being just south of us. BUT the rain was to the north of her, so we caught a few trailing showers and not much wind.

Since I'm in South Carolina, I had 1st Mate Alex clean up Panacea's decks and remove the final bit of canvas and such.  When I called to check on Bonnie yesterday, he was hangin' on the dock with Capt. John of All In watching the sun pop out and telling me he got all the work done, but nothing was happening. Bad news for Alex who was dripping in sweat and pooped, but good news for all the people and boaters in Fort Myers Beach.

So another storm moves on into the Gulf of Mexico and will be bumping into the Louisiana coast later today and tonight. She is a pretty weak storm and besides some water pouring down, should move inland and die soon.

I'll keep you posted as always on the workings of FantaSea Sailing and will stand by the phone as we continue booking for the fall.

Tropical Storm Bonnie

Weather Happens...

Looks like a wet weekend for us in Fort Myers Beach. The day is going to get a bit more rainy as it progresses today and is promising to go into the weekend as Tropical Storm Bonnie moves just to our southwest.

So find a nice little place to kick back and grab a coldie. It's still going to be a bit hot, but the rain is welcomed, at least for the short time it will be here.

Here's the model of where she is heading. Winds will be around 40 to 50 mph and the rain will be several inches. I guess summer is everywhere now...

Oil Spill Information Site

Here is a site you should bookmark to keep an eye on oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Please use the interactive map to collect updated information. Give the Gulf of Mexico good thoughts and energy as she goes through her changes. It all helps. Pray and apologize for what we have done to all the life that is struggling because of our dependance of fossil fuel...

Looks Like Things are Heating Up

Ahhh... Good to be home on Panacea tonight. Yep, it's late, but to feel the water under our feet is a pretty special feeling. At 33 thousand pounds, she doesn't move much, but it's the gentle movement and the sound of the rigging that gives me a good nights sleep.

I checked the NOAA site and here's what we're watching.

As you can see there are four systems at the moment. The one in orange is at 50% chance of a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours.

There's two at 20% and one at 10%.

We watch the weather a lot down here at this time of year. If something looks like it's going to get close, we strip the boats of anything that may move and make sure the insurance is up to date.

So there you go. I'll keep you posted on any other activity. Summer is here and we get a bit wet in the afternoons.

I do have to tell you that I'm booking for the next sailing season now. I've got a few things on the books and would like to talk with you about you next visit down.

Sailing in Fort Myers Beach is always a great way to spend some time and sailing on the Gulf of Mexico is amazing. So call me when you can. The fall is right around the corner and I want to make sure you get the dates you want.
