Ahhh... Got That Drip Stopped!

Today, Alex my 1st mate and I took to the bilge and tackled the exhaust muffler, as well as a couple of waterlines, one from a seacock for the refrigeration and one from the fresh water tank. We always wonder why if it has a couple of screws and a couple of clamps it turns into a 3 day project.  NOT TODAY. knock on fiberglass.

That old muffler was shot. It was really time for a new one and found the part, locally and only one trip to West Marine and well it just went smooth.

We didn't break anything and all went as planned. How cool is that. If you look back at the blog for the past few years, you will see that when projects are talked about, I talk about the problems and how we solved 'em. Not this time. It was a nice change.

So tonight I sit and make up the new project list and get it in some kind of order. We'll take the tasks one at a time and get them done as we add more as we go along. It's just like painting the Golden Gate Bridge. When it's finished, you just start it all over again.

There you have it simple easy day. Now I clean up and start on the next thing. Cool.

I want to remind you that I'm sailing in Fort Myers Beach. Right out there on the Gulf of Mexico. I also want you to know that I have been trying to figure out that Twitter thing. I like it and have been trying for a year or so to figure it out. I'm trying it with a new account and a little more knowledge.

When I find a good site or a good RSS feed, I'll shoot it through my site and you'll get the benefits of my labors. What a world we live in today. Great information and wonderful people all over the world sharing what they know so we can all benefit. It's good to be a part of that.

Tis' the Season for Sailing

Hello everyone. It's time to go sailing here in Fort Myers Beach. The weather is great and we are having a wonderful time on the water.

Alex and I are busy keeping Panacea in good shape. Varnishing, cleaning, fixing, maintaining, sailing and planning. It's a busy season.

Speaking of fixing, the cost of keeping Panacea it tip top shape is pretty amazing to me. I'm doing everything I can do, but it seems like we knock out one project and add 2 more to the list. I'm so thankful it's a labor of love.

I'm hooking up with Ocean Rigging, here in Fort Myers Beach, to get a project started. These guys are the best around and I'm not sure what I'd do with Richard and Chris. But Panacea is in need of some new roller furling. The Genoa is the first one. It's the biggest.

I have old, very old furling gear. It's the type with the rod and no stay. So I have to have a stay put on and with the new wire is new hardware. Then the furling unit. Whew! I'll shoot photos and keep you posted on that.

Then the main. I have the same "old" system on the main. It's outside furling and needs the same upgrade. So that one will be next.

I do fly a stay sail and it's a hank on and I'd love to have that with a furling system too.

All that and Richard says I have to have the luff of the sail re-rigged for the new furling systems at $5.00 a foot. Now that's a double bummer. But when there done, it will be really nice.

I'm looking forward to it.

So I hear it's snowing up north. This is a good time to check that calendar on the front page of the website, and pick your dates.
